Peer Support

Peer support specialists provide a unique perspective for our neighbors. Drawing upon their lived experiences, they will help neighbors navigate through some of those similar challenges. Peer support specialists will engage with neighbors when they first arrive at Horizon House, and help them achieve individualized goals that promote addressing mental health, physical health, or substance abuse issues in order to gain financial and housing stability.

Peer activities include:

• Assertive engagement
• Modeling positive behaviors/choices
• Engendering hope
• Upholding accountability and advocating for equity
• Working in coordination with other Horizon House staff (including Case Managers and Employment and Guest Service positions) as well as with community partners with whom clients are engaged
